Meet Kathi H

Kathi Huhtaluhta is a vocalist/composer and musician of Finnish/Sami heritage who has been described as having a dynamic/ethereal voice capable of executing complex passages of music and moving the heart. She has written, composed and performed music in other languages including Andalusian, Finnish, and Anatolian. Huhtaluhta incorporates her passion for the Sonoran Southwest in her music, as well as Native American, Sami (Lapland) and gypsy Spanish. She has her own unique style of “yoik” chant and plays guitar and drums.

Kathi Huhtaluhta has produced a number of albums, including “Elä Tanssia Laula”, which in Finnish means “To Live, to Dance, to Sing.” Her “World Winds” album demonstrates the diversity of music that Huhtaluhta is capable of and is a showcase of international talent. While working with U.N.C.E.F and the United Nations, Huhtaluhta collaborated with artists from around the world, forming the “World Winds,” concept. She strives to bring harmony and peace through cultural exchange and by collaborating with artists from around the globe.

Kathi Huhtaluhta has toured in Europe and has been a highlighted performer at the renown Kaustinin Music Festival in Finland. She has performed throughout the U.S, Canada, and Finland, where her family resides, and spends time in Norway and Finland with the Sami people. Kathi just recently participated in the “Riddu Riddu” festival, an annual international event in Norway that celebrates not only Sami culture, but many indigenous cultures.

World Winds is an eclectic world music ensemble led by singer, songwriter, and composer Kathi Huhtaluhta, bringing together musicians and musical traditions from across the globe. Rooted in Kathi’s Finnish and international heritage, World Winds creates a captivating blend of world music, Flamenco, Celtic, Anatolian, Nordic, Indigenous, and Latin influences.
 

The ensemble features a dynamic mix of acoustic and electric guitar, violin, mandolin, modern drums and native percussion, Native flute and drum, and expressive vocals. Each performance offers a fresh musical journey, weaving together traditional sounds, original compositions, and contemporary interpretations of music from around the world.
 

World Winds features both Kathi’s original compositions and music inspired by artists and traditions from across the world. The ensemble’s repertoire encompasses Finnish and Nordic music, Spanish and Flamenco rhythms, Anatolian melodies, Celtic and Galician folk, Indigenous chants and percussion, and other global musical traditions.
 

With its diverse instrumentation, powerful vocals, and cross-cultural approach, World Winds offers an immersive musical experience that celebrates the beauty and diversity of music from around the world.
